A lack of information

WHEN hospitals began running up huge debts, the government responded by sending in consultants to help them budget properly.

Ministers were concerned that local hospital managers weren't doing their jobs properly and didn't have a grip on their finances.

But how much did these consultants, drafted in from the private sector, cost the taxpayer?

This is the question city MP John Hemming put to ministers.

The answer: "The information requested is not collected by the Department."
