Greedy lawyers in the firing line

FAILINGS in our law and order system are a popular topic of debate at Westminster.

Black Country MP John Spellar didn't beat around the bush when he laid the blame squarely on greedy lawyers.

Police officers were so wrapped up in legal red tape that they simply didn't have time to arrest as many people as they used to, he said.

Speaking in the Commons, he asked Home Office Ministers: "Does not an imbalance seem to be developing between the interests of the public and the police, as opposed to the interests of the criminals and the avaricious lawyers?"

He asked the government to hurry up and remove some of the bureaucracy "so that the police officers on the streets of Sandwell will be able to get out and arrest the criminals".
