Tory backbenchers plan a rebellion

LABOUR isn't the only party with discipline problems.

David Cameron also faces a rebellion from his own backbenchers. The issue upsetting them is road-pricing, which has become a major headache for the Government.

John Spellar, Labour MP for Warley and a former Transport Minister, has led opposition to the scheme from the Labour benches.

But why aren't the Tories speaking out against plans to charge motorists?

The answer is because they actually support the policy.

They've been keeping their views quiet, perhaps understandably. On the one hand it's a "green" policy designed to help the environment. But on the other hand, motorists don't want to pay it.

Now some backbenchers are planning to risk the wrath of their leadership and come out against the scheme.

Expect the rebellion to begin next week.
