How many in poll position?

A FAMOUS victory for Sir Patrick Cormack, the South Staffordshire MP who refused to take attempts to de-select him lying down.

If any members of his constituency party thought Sir Patrick, 67, had no fight left in him, they were proved very wrong.

But what of Labour as it prepares for life after Tony Blair? If Gordon Brown does call a snap election once he becomes Prime Minister, is Labour prepared?

Um, not quite. So far it has managed to re-select four sitting MPs out of around 40 in the West Midlands. These things take time, apparently.
