Richard's whipping up parliamentary interest

RICHARD Wilson, star of One Foot in the Grave, has been entertaining audiences at a hit West End show called Whipping It Up, in which he plays a government whip.

A whip has one of the most important jobs in government, keeping order among backbench MPs and ensuring they vote the way they are supposed to. But they rarely get a lot of credit for their work, which goes on mostly behind the scenes.

Spotted in the audience of a recent production was a group of real-life government whips, including Labour MP Steve McCabe (Lab Hall Green).

So is it a realistic portrayal of their work? Nobody from the whip's office was available for comment.
