No rush for Lord Rooker in debate

BACKBENCH politicians like nothing better than putting ministers on the spot with difficult questions, but it can backfire...as Lord Hamilton recently discovered.

He asked Environment Minister Lord Rooker, former MP for Perry Barr and now a member of the House of Lords, for information about changes to the earth's temperature, during a debate on climate change.

Lord Rooker said he didn't have the answer to hand - but if Lord Hamilton "stays around for the next six hours" while the debate continued, he would dig out the information.
