Drinks warning has ring of truth for MPs

YARDLEY MP John Hemming (Lib Dem) is campaigning for the right to have a few drinks at Christmas.

He's admitted the awful truth - many people don't just enjoy the odd, quiet drink, but they actually get a bit drunk. What's more, he says there's nothing wrong with that.

However, the Home Office is encouraging police to head to pubs over the festive season and look for revellers who have had a few too many.

Speaking in a recent debate, Mr Hemming warned MPs that they were exactly the type of people the boys in blue are targeting.

He said: "Under what the government call the responsible alcohol sales campaign, if people are argumentative - that includes a lot of honourable members, I presume - they are deemed to be drunk."
