Thumbs up for Digby

LORD Jones of Birmingham, otherwise known as former CBI boss Digby Jones, was given a real grilling by the Trade and Industry Committee when he was summoned to give evidence to them back in July.

Among other things, backbench MPs wanted to know whether Lord Jones, a Trade Minister in Gordon Brown's government, drove a British-built car.

He replied that he drove a Honda Civic, built in Swindon - but was a little taken aback when the MPs said that particular car might not be made in the UK at all.

Today, however, Lord Jones will be praised by MPs during a debate in the House of Commons on manufacturing.

They are pleased because he ditched his Honda - and got himself a British-built Jaguar instead.
