YARDLEY MP John Hemming narrowly avoided becoming a television celebrity, he reveals.
The Liberal Democrat MP, a self-made millionaire who once applied to become an astronaut, could have been a star of the BBC show Dragons' Den.
On the show, budding businessmen try to persuade a panel of successful entrepreneurs to invest in their idea. Mr Hemming would have been one of the entrepreneurs.
He reveals: "I was asked to go on the original program and initially agreed although when they started messing around with dates I pulled out."
Writing on a website, Mr Hemming says that if he wasn't an MP, he would become a full-time jazz musician.
"I have enough income (without anything to do with politics) to keep me and my wife and her children, and my girlfriend and her child, in sufficient chip butties and would prefer to go on the road with a jazz band to most things," he admits.
