Challenge for Steve

Jon Walker

BIRMINGHAM MP Steve McCabe has a challenge on his hands as he manages Labour's campaign in the Crewe by-election.

Mr McCabe (Lab Hall Green) has the task of ensuring Labour holds on to the seat in the north west, which was held by popular backbencher Gwyneth Dunwoody with a majority of 7,000 at the last election. Mrs Dunwoody died last month.

Conservative leader David Cameron is making winning Crewe a priority.

He said: "We've got 15 days to overturn Labour's majority of more than 7,000. Obviously it's going to be a tall order but we are going to give it our best shot."
