Betty's parking mad over fine

Jon Walker

BETTY Boothroyd, the former MP for West Bromwich West who became the much-loved Speaker of the House of Commons, is hopping mad – over a parking ticket.

Over-zealous traffic wardens slapped a ticket on her car’s windscreen when it was parked in a pay-and-display bay in Bradford.

She had, in fact, paid for a ticket. And she was displaying it.

But she’d stuck it on her windscreen upside down. And this, supposedly, is enough to earn you a fine.

I’m told that Lady Boothroyd, as she’s now known, plans to make her feelings on the matter clear in the House of Lords.
