Plight of the innocent

AS WEDNESDAY'S shock news of raids and a kidnap plot broke across the city, Pakistani-born mothers were walking their children to school, their husbands starting the day's work.

These are the true representatives of Pakistanis in our city and they must not be shunned or persecuted because a bunch of their compatriots are alleged to be involved in terrorism.

Once it was IRA outrages that made the Birmingham-Irish community groan. Now it's the turn of the Muslim community in our city to feel betrayed by fanatics.

The Irish weathered their shame. The Muslims will do the same.

We must all wish them well.
