Sack jobsworth who persecuted Kerry

CALL 'em stuffed shirts, call 'em talking heads, call 'em whatever you will.

But among those at the University Hospital Birmingham, which runs Selly Oak Hospital, is a jobsworth who deserves the sack.

Someone among the over-paid office staff is responsible for blighting the career prospects of 23-year-old Kerry Woolley.

She lost her job as an auxiliary nurse at the hospital when the Criminal Record Bureau, which runs a check on all staff, confused her name with that of another Kerry Woolley, who sported a police record for street robbery, theft and disorderly behaviour.

The CRB admitted its error, but Kerry wasn't reinstated. She, you see, had turned to the Press in a bid to clear her name.

The talking heads didn't like that. They felt it had brought them bad publicity. So she remains unemployed while they say she's been caught up in "an unfortunate set of circumstances" and is welcome to apply for auxiliary nursing posts to be advertised this month.

Big deal. Not a word of apology for its mistake in dismissing Kerry, just a load of pompous waffle.

But who is the unknown man or woman who rubber-stamped Kerry's being told to reapply?

Who it is we'll never know because the Trust has closed ranks, passed the buck, washed its hands of the matter.

Stinks, doesn't it?
