But you are a clown, Ian

AS A sporting mercenary, footballer Ian Wright did well.

Now, away from the pitch, the former Arsenal and England player has ideas above his station.

He says he is to leave the BBC because he's tired of being used as "a clown", and dislikes the toffs with ties in studio debates after games.

I would ask Mr Wright to listen to himself. His English is appalling, he sounds less than half literate. He speaks without aitches, he punctuates every sentence with "like" or "you know". A verbal clown indeed.

I liked the BBC spokesman's response to Wright's outburst.

"We have used him so little in the last year that we don't quite know what he's quitting from," he said. Ouch.
