Man-trap must endure scorn
Dec 23 2009 By Maureen Messent
HOW deep the frost at the executive enclave home when Bibi Giles and her husband, Peter, meet over the turkey in Droitwich on Friday.
She spent last week in Worcester County Court alleging her doctor had given her “leg-buckling orgasms” during a gynaecological examination – although his nurse-chaperone was just 2ft away.
Allegations flew from Mrs Giles, aged 50, some luridly laughable, others plain daft. But they have been sufficient to blight the life of Dr Angus Thomson and his GP wife over the past three years.
Mrs Giles would contact him up to three times a day following a surgical procedure, sent him suggestive texts and became a joke among his colleagues.
Ultimately, she tried to sue him for £50,000 for sexual harassment.
Her case collapsed when another doctor, hearing reports of the case, came forward via Dr Thomson’s Medical Defence Union team. After hearing of Dr William Dowley’s experiences with this erotically-inclined man-trap, the judge told her barrister: “She’s got form. She has pestered a doctor in the past.”
Exit this ghastly woman, agreeing to pay her victim’s £30,000 costs. I’m delighted for Dr Thomson and his family, but how will the Giles’ weather Droitwich’s scorn?
