SHAME on Birmingham councillors for voting to make former colleague Margaret Wells an honorary alderman this week.

This title is for people who have "given particularly notable service to the city"" - not freeloaders like Wells who used to represent her Stockland Green ward from her home in Northumberland.

The only consolation is that, if her legendary non-attendance at council meetings is anything to go by, she won't even turn up to receive her award.
