Blind Dave's astonishing feat

The Stirrer

BLACK Country marathon runner Blind Dave Heeley is just three days away from completing seven marathons in seven days on seven continents.

After traveling with him to New York last year and seeing him at close quarters, I've no doubt that he'll successfully make it over the finishing line at the Flora Marathon in London on Sunday and become the first disabled athlete to achieve this amazing feat.

But even if for some reason he fails - injury perhaps, or a delayed flight - Dave would still be a hero.

His refusal to bow to the handicap of losing his sight as a teenager should be an inspiration to us all.

I trust that if his home town team of West Brom get promoted to the Premiership, they'll have room for "one more on top" when the traditional bus takes its celebration tour.

Dave is truly top of the league.
