Stephen Warnock: Why Aston Villa must not fear Manchester United
STEPHEN Warnock insists Villa must adopt a ‘no fear’ approach to stopping Wayne Rooney and co at Wembley.
Warnock admits the England star is among the world’s best players and will be a formidable opponent tomorrow.
But the former Blackburn Rovers defender is confident that the solid Villa defence are strong enough to nullify Rooney.
“It is a young team but there is quite a lot of experience within the team for such a young team,” said Warnock.
“I don’t think we really fear anyone.
“You fear losing the final more than anything because you’d do anything to win it.
“We know United are such a good team but we know we’ve got the players capable of beating United and getting the right result.
“It’s whether we can do that on the day and how well United play. If they play to their potential, and everyone is firing on all cylinders, then we know it will be a very tough game.”
Warnock has quipped that he will leave it to central defensive team-mates Richard Dunne and James Collins to deal with 27-goal Rooney.
“He is one of those players I love watching on TV,” he added. “You would put him, Lionel Messi and Ronaldo in the same bracket as the best three in the world.
“I’ll leave him to James and Richard! To be fair, they’ve got a tough task ahead of them but Rooney will find it tough to do much against those two as well,” he said.
“They are two of the best defenders in the league on form and have been fantastic.”
