Aston Villa 0, Liverpool 2: Mat Kendrick's big match verdict

Alex McLeish

FORGET King Kenny sitting proudly upon the throne at Anfield, apathy reigns supreme at Villa Park.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish suggested the claret and blue faithful would have been better advised supporting their own team than abusing fallen hero Stewart Downing during yesterday’s depressing defeat.

But there was so little to get excited about from a Villa viewpoint again yesterday afternoon that it was refreshing to see some passion – any passion – from the unimpressed punters.

Whether or not taunting Downing proved to be more misguided than an Andy Carroll shot, Villa desperately needed something to shout about, something to fire them up during yet another one of those days.

Villa fans realise it is a season of transition.
