Knight set to ride into Villa

Zat Knight

ASTON Villa manager Martin O'Neill has confirmed he expects to complete the signing of Fulham defender Zat Knight today.

Speaking after his side's thumping 5-0 Carling Cup second round win at Wrexham, O'Neill said terms had been agreed with all parties.

Knight is expected to cost Villa in the region of £3.5million and O'Neill said: "I would expect that to go through tomorrow morning. All things have been agreed with Fulham and Zat and there was just some paperwork that needed to be sorted out at the Fulham end."

And O'Neill insisted he did not expect his swoop for Knight to bring an end to his transfer activity before the Friday transfer deadline.

O'Neill added: "We are looking to strengthen the squad. That is what we expect to do between now and Friday evening. We think we are able to do so."

Fulham manager Sanchez, speaking after his side's 1-0 victory against Shrewsbury in the Carling Cup, revealed he was happy for the deal to go through.

"Zat's move to Villa is going through. We have agreed a price," he said. "He is a Birmingham lad and I understand Villa is his club. The deal is good for him and us."
