Maloney's relief as confidence grows

SHAUN Maloney has spoken of his "relief" at his match-winning performances against Fulham and Wrexham.
His displays earned him three goals and have put him into contention to replace either Stiliyan Petrov or Wilfred Bouma on Sunday.
"I felt relief more than anything", he said. "Hopefully I can kick on now. I didn't have a great pre-season, even though the team did really well, but the goals have given me some confidence.
"The goal at Fulham gave me confidence going into the Wrexham match. I felt good going into that match and once I scored my first on Tuesday, I settled down and started playing better.
"The first was important and it's always nice to double your individual tally."
