Gareth Barry: I need to be more open

VILLA skipper Barry was happy to slot home his fifth goal of the season against Middlesbrough but admits he needs to add more from open play.

He has netted five spot-kicks out of six this season, against Liverpool, Blackburn, Portsmouth, Chelsea and now Boro, but has not scored from open play since against Spurs with his goal-of-the-season contender on Boxing Day 2006.

"It was good to have got one (penalty) two games after missing one and to stick it away was the perfect solution," said Barry.

"There were a few nerves but I was delighted to see it go in. I'm disappointed I still haven't scored from open play this season but to score a penalty gives me another confidence boost."
