The top-scoring seasons for Aston Villa

VILLA have enjoyed their best season, in terms of firepower after the first 36 games of a campaign, for 48 years.

And in the top flight that figure is 72 years.

In 1976/77 Villa scored 76 goals in the season but only 65 after 36 games; in 1974/75 they hammered 79 goals in the season but had only scored 59 after 36 games.

In 1971/72 in Division Three Villa scored 85 goals in 46 games but only 66 after 36 games.

Villa scored 69 goals in 42 games in Division One in 1965/66, and 78 in 42 games in 1960/61 but only 66 after 36 games.

You have to go back to 1959/60 when Villa scored 89 goals in the Second Division with 82 coming off the first 36 games for a more productive season.

But in the top flight that figure stretches back to 1935/36 when they scored 81 goals in a relegation season with 70 coming off the first 36 games.
