Gabriel Agbonlahor determined to become ruthless

VILLA striker Gabriel Agbonlahor is determined to become more ruthless in front of goal.

Agbonlahor netted his sixth of the season at Middlesbrough in mid-November and then his seventh before the end of the year at Wigan.

But he then went on a 12-game drought before netting against Bolton in April, although four goals then arrived in four successive games to take his total for last season to a very creditable 11.

"I was a fool to myself when the critics were saying I hadn't scored for a while. I wanted to prove them wrong," he recalls of that difficult time.

"My confidence wasn't down and I knew the goals would come and so it proved.

"When I wasn't scoring, I was setting up goals like the one that went in off Philippe Senderos at Arsenal. The gaffer knew if I wasn't scoring I was creating, but I ended up getting my fair share last season."
