Patrik Berger joins Sparta Prague after Aston Villa release
PATRIK Berger has signed a two-year deal with Czech Republic club Sparta Prague following his release from Villa.
The 34-year-old midfielder decided against an offer from an unnamed Premier League side and will now return to a club where he started out as a youth.
"I wanted to come back at some point anyway and so I decided the time was right now," he said.
Berger chose Sparta over cross-city rivals Slavia where he signed his first professional contract, despite attempts to sign him by former Liverpool team-mate Vladimir Smicer.
"I did not receive an offer from Slavia and we came to terms with Sparta very quickly," he continued.
"I think I have made the right decision."
