Brad Friedel set for InterToto debut
MARTIN O'Neill hopes to wrap up the £2.5million signing of Brad Friedel early next week with his arrival all the more pressing after Brad Guzan's selection for the Olympic games.
O'Neill will now be looking to hand Blackburn goal-keeper Friedel a debut in the InterToto Cup next week at Villa Park.
The delay appears to be Blackburn boss Paul Ince's desire to bring in a replacement, with Spurs keeper Paul Robinson tipped for Ewood Park.
O'Neill will have to wait to see 24-year-old Guzan, even if their £650,000 signing gains a work permit, after he was picked to represent his country in Beijing next month which means he will not be available until Villa's home match with Liverpool on August 31.
