Davies won’t get carried away
MANCHESTER United’s patchy early-season league form is one reason why Villa cannot read too much into the Premier League table after half-a-dozen games, according to Curtis Davies.
United’s fortuitous 2-0 win over Bolton took them to 10th in the league with eight points, five behind Villa.
“Manchester United are nowhere near the top and if the season finishes like that I’ll eat my hat!” said Davies.
“You cannot get carried away with where we are because teams have still to come into it. We can take positives that we are doing well and, as long as we are within touching distance with teams throughout the season, it gives you great confidence.”
Villa’s third successive 2-1 league win has laid the foundation for a first-versus-third clash at Stamford Bridge next Sunday.
“We are taking our chances,’’ said Davies, who admits the performance against Sunderland was not the best.
“The main thing is that you keep winning. I’d rather play poor football and win and, as long as we are up there, I am happy.”
He continued: “Sunderland knew they could not sit back against us. We managed to punish them with two quick goals. After that they tried to play three up front for the last 20 minutes but we were strong, particularly Stiliyan Petrov.”
