O’Neill’s glad to put on a show
MARTIN O’Neill was almost apologetic about the spot of time-wasting in injury time in the home win over Sunderland.
But the Irishman says Villa have earned the right to do such things, as they are king of the entertainers on their own turf.
“I think the majority of the crowd will forgive us for keeping the ball in the corner in the last moment,’’ O’Neill said.
“Because, with respect, in terms of entertainment here at Villa Park we are as strong as anyone in Britain in that department.”
O’Neill says a platform of four wins and a draw is good for confidence, even at this early stage of the season.
“We’ve now taken 13 points from six games. There’s a long way to go,’’ he said.
“We can’t read too much into it as a sign of what we may be able to do
“But it’s good to get the points on the board to get the confidence.
“I wouldn’t want to get carried away with it by making bold assumptions on six Premier League games but it’s been a fine start.”
O’Neill says the dressing room is buzzing: “The Holy Grail is the Premier League and people can be unforgiving if you don’t pick up the points.
“The team spirit is excellent.
“If you are winning football matches, generally speaking, the team spirit is good.
“If you are not winning too many games you will have a bit of discontent and that’s not to say you will always keep everyone happy either.”
