Martin O’Neill fury at Thomas Sorensen claims

Martin O'Neill

MARTIN O’Neill has dismissed suggestions from Thomas Sorensen that he set out to “destroy” the Danish international’s career.

Sorensen is cleary still bitter at spending a year in the wilderness at Villa and he used the Premier League break to tell the Danish media last week: “It stayed personal for him and had nothing to do with football.

“I suddenly realised my manager could destroy my career. He must really have had a down on me, because why would he effectively destroy my chances for me to change clubs?”

But accusations O’Neill actively blocked potential moves to Manchester City, Blackburn and Middlesbrough – who were all heavily linked with moves for Sorensen last season – has angered the Villa boss.

He said: “It is utter and complete fabrication. There wouldn’t have been two managers that called me.

“You have to ask yourself the question why didn’t he go there? Thomas Sorensen is not 14 years of age, starting in the game.

“Thomas has had a career.

“You have to ask the question why didn’t one of these teams take him?

“No football club in the Premier League asked me about Thomas Sorensen so I was unable to furnish them with any details.

“Therefore, there was nothing to talk about,’’ O’Neill added.
