Villa plan an all-out attack on Red army

Luke Young

LUKE Young says the history books are there to be ripped up when Villa tackle Manchester United tomorrow.

United’s stranglehold over Villa since August 19, 1995, when Ian Taylor, Mark Draper and Dwight Yorke all scored in the first half of a 3-1 win, is well documented.

But in-form Young says Villa will once again go out on the attack.

“You go on about records but at the end of the day it’s a one-off match at Villa Park. What has happened in the past is irrelevant,’’ he said.

“We go into it full of confidence now after a tough game at Arsenal.

“We know it is going to be difficult to beat Manchester United but we’ll have a go.

“I’ve had some days where we’ve lost by four and couldn’t get to grips with them as an attacking force.

“It’s all on the day. We’ll be going out there to give them a good test.

“We won’t be trying to sit back, we’ll be going to attack them and win the match.”

United go into the game having just beaten Stoke City 5-0 but Young says Villa will be up against a United team yet to hit top form.

“There is the potential that they could be as good as they were last season but I don’t think they’ve hit those heights quite

yet,’’ he said. “After bringing in Dimitar Berbatov and it has probably taken them a little while to gel together. But United will go on a run where they will look invincible at some stage.”

The defender has been singled out for special praise by Martin O’Neill this week for the way he adapted to the switch to the left flank at The Emirates.

Now he swaps Theo Walcott for Ronaldo.

“It’s the same all over in this league,’’ he said. “You’re playing world-class strikers and wingers pretty much every week and it will be no different this weekend.

“At Manchester United no one really seems to stay where they start. They all rotate as a front four.

“You never quite know who you are picking up at times.

“They are very difficult to mark and it will be a really, really tough test for us but one that we are ready for.”

Young says, the home crowd can play their part.

He added: “The support were magnificent for us down at the Emirates. Hopefully we can get the crowd really pumping and right behind us then we can do our bit.”
