Super-rich Manchester City could change transfer system's dimensions says Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill

Wayne Bridge and Germany’s Torsten Frings but O’Neill is only concerned with what he will be able to do with Randy Lerner continuing to grant him his full support.

“Maybe it is less for us to worry about than the likes of Chelsea,’’ O’Neill said. “All I know is that we will do what is in our particular means.”

O’Neill also makes the point that regardless of City’s wealth they will still have to mould their superstars into a team.

“Sir Alex Ferguson’s point is that even if they did buy four or five absolutely top class players, there is no guarantee that everyone gels,’’ he said.

“Jose Mourinho had the opportunity to buy very good players and still had to mould them together.”

O’Neill is also prepared to look at loan signings which raises the possibility of Swedish striker Henrik Larsson, at Helsingborg, arriving in the short-term.

“I would look at anything,’’ O’Neill said. “We will look in January to see if we can strengthen, which is exactly what we want to do.

“If it didn’t materialise it won’t be through lack of trying.”
