Aston Villa will respect minnows Gillingham - O'Neill

“We have a bit of momentum going but we have to push on.

“The number of wins away from home has been a fantastic achievement and, in terms of effort, the players have given me every ounce they have got.

“But I cannot remember the last time a prize was given out in January.”

O’Neill is only half joking when he points to Villa’s 38-point haul, which sees them within a win of safety.

“It sounds terribly negative but the most important thing for us is to be in the Premier League each year,” he said.

“I do not care if it is Manchester United, that is the first target of every team.”
