Gareth Barry: Aston Villa can go far in this year's FA Cup

Gareth Barry and Richard Garcia.

“In the UEFA Cup we started well and the points were on the board so he made the changes then.

“The FA Cup, I’m not sure how he’s going to see it or if the fantastic start we’ve had in the league will make him look at it any differently.

“Any team that can go down there from us with our squad of players is capable of winning, so whether he rests a few we can still win. It’s a great chance to go through. I’ll certainly want to play.’’

Since flattering to deceive in the last final at the old Wembley in 2000, Villa have never looked like gracing the new national stadium in the FA Cup following these defeats: 2001 third round: Leicester (h) 2-1, 2002 third round: Man Utd (h) 3-2, 2003 third round: Blackburn (h) 4-1, 2004 third round: Man Utd (h) 2-1,2005 third round: Sheff Utd (a) 3-1, 2006 fifth round (replay): Man City (a) 2-1, 2007 third round: Man Utd (a) 2-1, 2008 third round: Man Utd (h) 2-0.
