Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill is having to be patient in the search for new signings

O’Neill is insistent Villa are yet to firm up their interest in any potential targets.

“We haven’t made any bids at all. We are on the look-out but we have not made any bids for any players,” he added.

“It is the one opportunity during the season where you have to assess and evaluate and try and do something about it.

“We might only last another two games in the UEFA Cup and one more game in the FA Cup, you don’t know for certain.

“But what we do know is that we’ve got at least another 21 games still to play – 18 in the league, two in Europe and one in the FA Cup.

“We have already been at it for a long time and the need for us to try and improve is pretty apparent and that is what we are going to try and do.”
