Aston Villa: Nicky Shorey's future in doubt
WILFRED Bouma is closing in on a first team recall by Martin O’Neill which will cast doubt on Nicky Shorey’s future at the club.
The Dutch international is back in training at Bodymoor Heath and is understood to be ear-marking a return to senior action in around five weeks.
That would inevitably put pressure on Shorey whose future is in some doubt with him playing second fiddle already at left-back to Luke Young.
The 27-year-old is rumoured to be at the centre of interest from West Ham and Tottenham – but neither will want to pay anywhere near the £4million price shelled out by Villa in August to Reading.
Bouma’s return – pencilled in for the fifth round of the FA Cup if Villa overcome Cheltenham or Doncaster who play their third round tie on Tuesday – could not come at a much better time for Villa.
By the middle of next month Villa will be in the thick of a hectic programme on three fronts.
Bouma would be eligible to play in both legs of the last 32 Uefa Cup clash with CSKA Moscow next month.
