Luke Young: Aston Villa face stern test at resurgent Sunderland

LUKE Young believes Villa’s winning run will face a stern examination at Sunderland on Saturday.

Villa head to the Stadium of Light having gone nine games unbeaten, but the Black Cats have won three and drawn two of Ricky Sbragia’s six games in charge, with their only defeat coming at Everton.

“They need to pick up points and they’ll be looking to do that against us,” the Villa defender said.

“The are enjoying the fruits of ‘new manager syndrome’ – their results have picked up since Ricky Sbragia came in.

“They probably under-achieved beforehand, because they have got good players in their squad.

“The Stadium of Light is always a difficult place to go to, because of the crowd. It is always loud and they get behind them so it will be a tough game.”

Young says he is unsure if he will come in for any barracking from the home supporters after his season at rivals Middlesbrough.
