Aston Villa: Agbonlahor admits he's missing John Carew
GABBY Agbonlahor admits he is missing ‘father figure’ John Carew even though he has taken over as the daddy of the Aston Villa goal-getters.
Carew was Villa’s top scorer last season but he looks like being eclipsed by Agbonlahor this term with the Brummie striker in prolific form.
Agbonlahor is waiting to see if the official goals panel awards him the winning goal against Albion last weekend or gives it to Albion keeper Scott Carson.
If the Villa speedster gets the goal it will take his tally to 10 Premier League goals, before this afternoon’s visit to Sunderland.
That is just one less than he scored throughout last season, when Carew topped the claret and blue scoring charts with 13 league goals.
Agbonlahor has relished the responsibility of leading the line alone in Carew’s absence, although he does miss his senior strike partner.
“It’s a bit annoying because we’ve done well with John in the last couple of seasons so hopefully he’ll be back soon,” said Agbonlahor.
“We’ve shown that we can cope and we’ve shown that if anyone does get injured we can still do well with the squad we’ve got.
“But I have missed John. He’s like a father figure to be fair. He’s got a lot of experience in the game so you can learn a lot from him.
