Aston Villa: Agbonlahor admits he's missing John Carew

“I’ve learned how to hold the ball up because of how strong he is and just things like that really.”

Villa boss Martin O’Neill admitted last weekend that, despite going nine Premier League matches unbeaten without Carew, the Norwegian target-man’s ongoing absence was “not ideal”.

Agbonlahor agrees with his manager that the 6ft 4ins powerhouse’s physical presence is a big miss, although the England hopeful’s form has made their 4-5-1 formation a success.

Villa have adapted well to not having Carew, who had scored five league goals and two in Europe before being laid low with a troublesome back injury around the end of November.

“I’m not sure how long he’s going to be out for, but it would be good to have him back,” said Agbonlahor

“His height is the main thing for us and just his physique. That big figure up front makes it very difficult for defenders.”
