Aston Villa: It's not over yet, warns Martin O'Neill ahead of UEFA showdown

MARTIN O’Neill has warned Zico and his CSKA Moscow side that Villa are far from out of the UEFA Cup because of their ability to win on the road this season.

Villa have won seven successive league games away from Villa Park – only Chelsea, twice, and Arsenal have managed longer runs in the Premier League with Bill Nicholson’s double-winning side of 1960/61 the only other team to have achieved this in the history of the game.

“We have still got a chance although obviously it will be difficult,” O’Neill said of next Thursday’s second leg with the tie poised at 1-1.

“They have an away goal so we have to score to have a chance but it is not impossible.

“We are not out of it. It will depend what the make-up of our team is.”

Villa needed a 69th minute John Carew goal to cancel out Vagner Love’s superb early strike.

O’Neill said: “Had we been beaten I would have been disappointed. We did enough to win it, while always realising the opposition were capable of scoring goals.

“After Sunday (at Everton) it was better not losing for a second time on the trot.

“We had loads of chances and I thought it was a pretty good game to watch.
