Martin O’Neill rejects Zico’s remarks
“I don’t know whether it was a criticism that they knew what we were going to do. The fact they were unable to stop a world-class player like Ashley Young from doing what is allowed on the pitch might tell me something.”
O’Neill rejects Brazilian legend Zico’s accusations that Villa are limited to a predictable Plan A and claims Stiliyan Petrov gave a central midfield master class in the first leg.
“Are we one-dimensional? Absolutely not, far from it,” he added.
“So I don’t accept Zico’s point either because one of the outstanding players playing for us the other evening was a central midfield player called Stiliyan Petrov.
“He got it down and played it and played through them and took it off them and ran past them and did all of those things so I don’t accept that.
“It’s a cop-out to tell you the truth. If getting it wide and somebody beating three or four players exhilarates the crowd I don’t see a great deal wrong with it.”
