Aston Villa: John Carew ready to answer Martin O’Neill call

JOHN Carew says he is ready to start his first league game in four months when Villa travel to Manchester City on Wednesday.

The Norwegian international could replace Emile Heskey, who limped out of the draw with Stoke City with a sore Achilles.

Carew missed the midweek UEFA Cup defeat in Moscow with a back problem and has started just three games, two in the FA Cup and one in the UEFA Cup at home to Moscow, since his last league start in the defeat to Newcastle in early November.

“I’ve been working hard and I feel I am getting there,” he said.

“I’ve got a few goals so I feel as if I’ve got it going again. At least that is a good feeling and I hope it is important for the team for the remaining games.

“I feel good and fit but there are a lot of good players at Villa and it is up to the manager how he composes the team. I just have to be ready whether I start or play later in the game.

“But I am definitely starting to feel ready to play a whole game.”
