Aston Villa star slams lapse against Stoke City

ASTON Villa's Stiliyan Petrov says the draw against Stoke City “felt like a defeat” but expects the race for the Champions League places to go down to the wire.

Villa remain six points clear of Arsenal, who could close that gap at Albion tonight, but face a trio of tough away matches at Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United.

“We are battling for something, and it is hard, but the other teams are dropping points as well,” said Petrov.

“We dropped points this time and that is the way it is going to be until the end.”

Villa’s late surrender to Stoke City was “the hardest result to swallow this season”, according to Petrov.

The lateness of Stoke’s goals came as a hammer blow to Villa’s attempts to halt a winless run of matches against Everton, CSKA Moscow and Chelsea.

And the Bulgarian says Martin O’Neill’s side have to simply raise their game for the visit to Manchester City tomorrow.
