We're still looking upwards, insists Aston Villa's Gareth Barry

GARETH Barry says Villa will continue to look to haul in Chelsea and Liverpool rather than concentrate specifically on keeping clear of Arsenal.

The skipper says Martin O’Neill’s men must strive to climb upwards in the Premier League with neither the Blues nor the Reds able to put a run together to take them out of Villa’s reach.

Although Barry admits the loss of two points against Stoke and defeat at Manchester City were body blows, he says the team are still confident of gaining good results.

“We are fourth at the moment. There is still a little gap there, and there is still a chance,” he said. “We’ve just got to try to see it through.

“You can always look at a few positives but we would prefer to be looking up, chasing Liverpool and Chelsea with the chance to go within one or two points of them.

“That is why it feels so disappointing drawing with Stoke and losing against City.

“The players, the managers, the fans, everyone at the club realises you’ve got to try and take it while it is there this season.
