Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood looks set to sign for Wolves

McCarthy’s squad boasts the country’s top marksman Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Scottish striker Chris Iwelumo, Ireland front man Andy Keogh and Welsh striker Sam Vokes.

Wolves’ opponents tomorrow, Nottingham Forest, are also said to be chasing Harewood with manager Billy Davies admitting yesterday he feared he had lost out to Wolves.

McCarthy said: “If it does happen it will be great. I want Marlon and I wouldn’t have spoken to Martin if I didn’t and hopefully it will happen.

“I think there will be a few clubs in for him. I am happy and delighted with the four strikers I have got.

‘‘They are four strikers who are going away now on international duty and they’re all involved in two international games.

“But if I have the ability to add someone of Harewood’s strength and ability to my squad why wouldn’t I do that? If we can do it, it would be fantastic.”
