Liverpool FC v Aston Villa: The fans speak out!
JB: What a joke! O'Neill has been found out and Villa are nothing but a long ball side with no depth and a manager who is tactically naive, has no pedigree in the PL and cannot bring star top class players to the club. Great to hear him wax lyrical about Liverpool and Man U than Villa afterwards - NOT! O'Neill has messed up, is not the Messiah. He has been found out and Villa need to get rid.
Villain1: I didn't actually think Gerrard was that influential, it was just Reo-Coker is not a full back, that spanish winger of the scousers murdered him all afternoon.
For the trip to OT I suggest the revolutionary tactics that have been suggested by others on here, namely Shorey to come in at LB, Luke Young to RB and Reo-Coker back into the middle. Back to 4-5-1 and let's make a fight of it for 4th!!
ChrisUpNorth: Our lack of all round quality came home to roost big style . Liverpool won the game without having to break sweat, which just highlights the chasm that exists between the top four and the rest.
All things considered, we've made a great fist of trying to break into the elite set, but we've had to rely heavily on a combination of good performance, lady luck and the fact that Arsenal have experienced an uncharacteristically poor period of form, which they're now through. We'll finish 5th or 6th, which is probably what we deserve on reflection.
Putting this season's exploits into perspective, we've definitely over achieved, but remain no more than a top half side. I've enjoyed this season more than any I can remember in recent history, but don't expect us to repeat it next season. That doesn't mean we shouldn't continue to try. It's just the reality of the situation.
49ers Rule 2008:These Villa players have been exceptional over the last 2 seasons, I will not criticise them at all.
However Mon seems to have sacrificed the short term gains villa have made this season, for a longer term vision.
My main worry is that MON has lost the dressing room, because of the UEFA CUP fiasco & his days are now numbered.
I still think that Villa will finish 4th, look at Arsenals fixture pile up, that is my reasoning and I am sticking to it.
O'neill does need to make changes in his managment style in regards to his transfer policy as this has clearly been his achilles heel.
