Aston Villa boss call for team to show character against Manchester United
Martin O'Neill has called on Aston Villa to show the "character" they have demonstrated for the majority of the season when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow.
Villa have seen their hopes of securing a Champions League spot take a dip after collecting only one point from their past five matches.
They have now slipped three points adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League and will come up against a United team eager to bounce back from successive defeats by Liverpool and Fulham.
O'Neill, who will be without injured striker Emile Heskey against the Red Devils, said: "Of course, it is a difficult game. It would be a difficult match under any circumstances.
"It will be particularly difficult at the minute as we're up against Manchester United who will be smarting from a couple of defeats.
"But it is up to us. It is a place for us to go and show the character that we have shown during the course of the season.
"Sometimes a result will go against you and you have to fight back from it. It doesn't mean that the team doesn't have character. We wouldn't be in this position if we didn't have character.
