Gareth Barry: Aston Villa need a great performance against Manchester United
GARETH Barry has urged Aston Villa to produce "the performance of the season" to get their Champions League push back on track when they visit Manchester United on Sunday.
Villa have a dismal record against United in recent years although they held Sir Alex Ferguson's side to a goalless draw earlier in the campaign.
They will tackle the Red Devils having gone eight games without a win in all competitions and having slipped three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League.
Barry is looking for Villa to emulate the kind of showing that earned them a 2-0 away win over the Gunners earlier in the campaign after some poor results.
The England midfielder, fresh from the midweek World Cup qualifying triumph over Ukraine, told PA Sport: "It is advantage Arsenal at present and the last few results have been a big blow to our season.
"We have been a bit down on confidence but at the same time we all realise we are one game away from putting in a good performance and turning it all around again.
"We can't worry about what has gone on too much. We have to look forward and be positive.
"It is all about the confidence factor. One match can swing us towards a good finish to the season and give us another springboard.
"We realise we have got tough fixtures coming up but if you can produce the performance of the season it can catapult you on to finishing strongly.
