Stevo 62: Do you think that MON is trying to prove a point, given that he didn't get the England job when McLaren was appointed? I agree that a spine of home grown talent is desirable, but we are sadly lacking flair & the wow factor.
With honest endeavor & hard work we got within touching distance of the holy Grail, but I fear that we will not quite accomplish it this season.
Traza: I have noticed that since MON came we have signed a couple of young foreign players who are in the youth or reserve teams. On the whole we have not yet seen the evidence of an effective scouting system unearthing talent for the first team but the reserve team is sitting pretty at the moment.
McDonald and Sid Cowans are doing a fine job, but with performances of late I am wondering how effective John Robertson and Steve Walford are particulary with A Young and Gabby. Or, is it that MON has his own way and will not take on board the ideas of John Robertson?
Boz: we played pretty well for 75 minutes and if that display doesn't convince MON that Shorey at LB and L Young on the right is a much better option than what he's been doing, he's definitely going to be suspect in my eyes.
Also, as many have been saying, it can't be a coincidence that with Heskey out and we're back to Gabby and Big John, we were much better going forward, although I accept it could have been different if Vidic and Ferdinand had played.
| Rickmeister: 7th place is definitely good enough for Europa Cup as Man Ure won the League Cup and all 4 semi fnallists in the FA Cup will qualify for either Champions League or Europa Cup by finishing in the top 6. Even if we totally fall apart I cannot see anyone other than Everton and West Ham overtaking us so our Europa Cup spot should be totally safe. As for yesterday, it was a much improved performance...at least for 75 minutes. We have to take the positives into the Everton game. However, we really need to sort our defending (as a team, not just the back 4) as we cannot afford to keep crumbling at the end of games. Top 4 teams simply do not do that. |
