Aston Villa’s poor home form baffles boss Martin O’Neill

“The last time we played at home here we should have been three in front against Tottenham Hotspur and we conceded the second goal just after half-time and lost our way.

“We played Wigan here where we drew 0-0 and Steve Bruce said that it was the most one-sided 0-0.

“We played Manchester United and drew 0-0, we played Fulham and drew 0-0 and didn’t deserve much more, but we had three great chances to win the game.”

O’Neill is adamant Villa Park does not hold any fear for his team and there is not a psychological barrier to winning home games.

“It’s been difficult, but the players still enjoy playing here,” added O’Neill, whose next game is at home to West Ham on Saturday.

“It’s not as if they clam up. We’ve faced problems here with sides sitting in, not the top four, but we’ll have to try and use a wee bit extra guile to break them down.

“That’s been difficult, but these boys are very young and we will continue to improve.”
