JUST what is going on at Villa? Unconfirmed newspaper reports over the last few weeks have claimed Martin O’Neill will have to sell some of his big earners, trim his squad and bring its average age down.
This has been disconcerting for and has confused many Villa fans who thought everything in the Holte End garden was getting rosier under Randy Lerner and O’Neill.
Moreover, it’s hardly the sort of news the fans want to hear when they are contemplating a serious challenge for the Champions League over the next few seasons.
Of course, we don’t know if the stories are true as the silence from Villa Park has been deafening.
It was a damaging story that needs a reply from Villa sooner rather than later if only to put the fans’ minds at rest.
However, it’s hard to correlate the story with what has happened since the club changed owner and manager.
